Week 4 of Northwest Arena’s Winter Backyard Curling Leagues sponsored by Dot’s Gift Boutique demonstrated how close the race to the championship in each league will be.
5:45 JEREMY’S BEL-VIEW MONDAY LEAGUE
Todd Frangione threw one small stone for Legion of Broom, and took one giant leap for his team into first place. His shot elevated them over War Vets in overtime 43-41. Mike Dietrich led the Legion to another tight win over Scuba Crew 55-53.
Theresa Jackson and Rich Tyger combined forces for a 2-0 Shoeless Joe’s evening.
The Pub escaped Head for the Mountains 48-41 and avoided an upset from a scrappy Dinner Bell team 47-43.
Taylor and Annika Putney have picked up the pace for Button Blockers. They continued to hone their skills in small-margin wins against Pepsi 34-29 and TRCurlers 31-28.
Russ Bell turned it up a notch for Kidney Stone to take down Guys n Curls 28-22.
Sue Benson received high praise from her teammates as Guys n Curls squeaked by Fruit of the Brooms 28-25.
Pepsi received key play from Dave Michener in a good old-fashioned Texas shootout with Dinner Bell 50-45.
Rachel Anderson and Head for the Mountains pulled away from Kidney Stones 40-29.
Ed Cramer and Fruit of the Brooms were victors in one of the highest-scoring games in backyard curling league history. They put up double digits in each end to squander Scuba Crew 64-59.
Shannon Weaver and War Vets played another overtime game in the second slate. This time they were on the winning side versus TRCurlers 36-34.
6:45 JEREMY’S BEL-VIEW MONDAY LEAGUE
Dan Challingsworth has Rand Machine at a league-best seven wins on the season. They dodged a potential upset from Lakeshore Paving 35-32 and put the Sip n Sliders away (42-30).
Dan and Jan Bowman climbed the standings ladder for Tree Huggers. The pair put the team in second place after completing a 42-39 comeback over Stark Company, followed by a 50-30 smashing of Rock Blockers.
Jimmy Sposato and Steve Arnone caught fire for Sour Pickles. Sposato commanded a 58-39 rout of Rock Blockers. Meanwhile, Arnone reached deep into his bag for a 38-36 toppling of Snow Good at This.
Randy Elleman improved Sly & the Family Stone to the .500 mark. They posted two close wins over Pickle Pushers 27-25 and Curl Jam 34-29.
Michelle Cresanti stepped up to the hack nicely for Snow Good at This in a 32-27 defeat of Lakeshore Paving.
A fast start for Ann Hammond and Sip n Sliders aided them in a 34-26 slugfest with Curl Jam.
Stark Company regrouped in their matchup with Pickle Pushers; James Lacki piloted a 40-32 outcome in their favor.
Stacy Felton came up clutch in overtime to lift Lakeshore Paving to a 50-48 thrilling victory over Lakeshore East.
5:30 STEVE CHAMBERS/JAMESTOWN HONDA WEDNESDAY LEAGUE
Mark and Liz Hinderleider made a step in the right direction for Hindy’s Hurlers. They pulled out two narrow victories when matched up with Rolling Stones 52-49 and Curling Me Softly 32-30.
Bad to the Stones went 2-0 for the first time this year behind Ryan and Danielle Patti. The pair lifted them past Geriatric Curling Machine 43-40 and Rolling Stones 36-28.
Marianne Mattoon had a solid outing for Stone Cold Maidens. She helped them outshine Curl Jam 52-41.
Joe Blair and We Love Beer found a way to escape Stone Cold Maidens 32-31.
Jon Gren led a comeback victory for Gren’s Growlers over Had a Few 37-32.
Jim Lundston stepped into the rotation nicely for Geriatric Curling Machine. They survived a late push from Gren’s Growlers 37-34.
Rachel Johnson corralled Curl Jam in the second slate to defeat Had a Few 38-36.
Julie Korban came to curl for Stone Cold Maidens in there 40-28 besting of Curling me Softly.
6:30 STEVE CHAMBERS/JAMESTOWN HONDA WEDNESDAY LEAGUE
George Panebianco and Ron Pappalardo are aiming for the top of the standings. The duo steered Perfect Stones to wins against Got Stones 38-31 and Slone Melhuish 25-22.
Kyle Rahr and Jennifer Swanson continue the revenge tour for Brush Offs. They got the job done versus Smokin’ Rocks 32-29 and Ice Men 31-21.
12 oz. Curlers witnessed Kevin Gastol in the zone during a 33-28 conquest of Rolling Stones.
Jason Britt and Smokin Rocks fended off Curls Gone Wild in a 38-37 hair-raiser.
Denton Holthouse had his name mentioned for the first time this year. He was recognized in a 38-28 ambush of Ice & Easy.
Chip Perkins was blazing through the competition with each shot. He took charge in the 51-31 destruction of In the House.
Mark Snow catapulted Curls Gone Wild to a one-point win versus Curling Q’s 36-35.
Slone Melhuish handed 12 oz. Curlers their first tally in the losing column. Max Eimiller captained the 38-30 upset.
Moly Gustafson was electric in a frozen battle between Ice Men and Ice & Easy. She was the star who got the 55-34 win for Ice Men.
Rolling Stones and Jeff Lewis were victorious against In the House 42-23.
7:30 STEVE CHAMBERS/JAMESTOWN HONDA WEDNESDAY LEAGUE
Rex McCray and Rob Loll have isolated Dot’s Men at the mountaintop. They remain unbeaten after a close call with Sub Zero 40-38 and a cruising by Stone Cold Sippers 47-30.
12 oz. Curlers were the only other team to manage a 2-0 evening. Ryan Short and Tim Sturges escorted them to triumphs of Six Stones and a Stick 28-22 and Barney’s Hoof Trimming 42-38.
Sandy Everson helped Cold as Ice pull away from Ice Holers 36-31.
Daniele Anderson put up monster numbers for Barney’s in a 55-33 rout of Draw a Blank.
Franni Carlson and Sub Zero were listed as favorites in the books. They scored just enough in the last end to dodge the underdogs, Six Stones and a Stick 32-30.
Blake Montgomery read the ice like a book in a 45-31 beatdown of Ice Holers.
DH}SW received an electric boost from Jim Bergman to win a 31-21 slugfest with Home Despots.
Janet Jespersen ignited Draw a Blank as they survived Haggy’s Jr. Curling Crew 40-37.
Ryan Roush rose to the occasion for Home Despots in a 46-41 upset of Cold as Ice.
Ireland Hagglund and Haggy’s Jr. Curling Crew picked up some positive momentum going into next week. The Crew came out on the right side of a 33-32 contest with DH}SW.
4:30 RYAN DEPPAS/LEGEND GROUP FRIDAY LEAGUE
Elliott DeLeon continues to lead Cold Beer Here as they stay atop the league with two wins over the Bemus Sliders 46-44 and Sweeping Beauties 39-32.
Always Late racked up two wins over Sweeping Beauties 40-39 and Seminar Group 31-26 behind strong play from Ben and Laura Snow.
Haggy’s 4 Below climbed up the leaderboard with two wins, as they bested Lions and Bears 49-34 and Bemus Bay Boulders 43-28 with Terry Garvin showing his curling prowess.
Bemus Bay Boulders knocked off Bourbon 420 37-35 with Peter Sullivan sliding the deciding stone.
Seminar Group slid their way to a convincing win putting up 63 points, with Eric Maloney leading the way.
Bourbon 420 defeated On the Rocks 43-34 as Coach Tim Anderson and Tom Ahlstrom showed their outstanding stickwork.
Lions & Bears topped Premier Listings 44-41, as Barb and Mike Lyons were their leading curlers.
Bob Paterniti led Tracey’s Dog past the Bemus Sliders 37-32.
